Michigan Wants to Hear From Residents About Housing
If you've ever had an opinion about housing in Michigan, home prices, availability, affordability, repairs, rentals, or what your community needs, today is an opportunity to share it.
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority, MSHDA, is currently developing Michigan's next five year Statewide Housing Plan, known as SHP 2.0.
Today, September 18, is the final day for Michigan residents to complete the statewide housing survey.
What Is Michigan Asking?
The survey asks residents about their housing experiences, challenges, and priorities.
The responses will become one part of a larger public engagement process that also includes regional listening sessions, interviews, community events, and focus groups.
The goal is to use that information to help guide Michigan's housing strategies and priorities over the coming years.
Michigan residents age 18 and older can participate, whether you're a homeowner, renter, prospective buyer, or simply someone interested in housing in your community.
Why This Matters
Real estate conversations usually focus on what a house sold for, where mortgage rates are headed, or how many homes are currently for sale.
But there's a bigger question:
What kind of housing will Michigan need over the next five years?
Michigan's housing challenges aren't identical from one community to another. Metro Detroit can have very different needs from communities in northern or western Michigan.
That's why input from the people actually living in these communities matters.
As a real estate agent, I see housing from the ground level, buyers searching for the right home, sellers trying to understand the market, and homeowners deciding whether to move, renovate, or stay where they are.
This survey gives Michigan residents an opportunity to add their own experiences to that conversation.
MSHDA says the next Statewide Housing Plan is scheduled to be completed in June 2027.
